MAUREPAS, La. – Members of the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the results of their efforts to improve areas of Maurepas School.

The improvement projects were part of initiatives supported by the Chamber’s Leadership Livingston Class of 2022. The class of local leaders raised funds and worked with local vendors to provide the school with the following:

• Four outdoor picnic tables, providing seating for students;
• Outdoor game areas;
• New televisions for school announcements;
• A sensory (cool-down) path for the pre-kindergarten and first grade students; and
• Updated reading areas in the school library.

The group also has plans to paint the campus’ recreation area and add play areas to the school grounds later this year.

“It’s a great feeling knowing that organizations like the Chamber of Commerce are out there serving all areas of our parish. It’s a real blessing, and we’re very grateful,” Principal Cassie Felps said.

The Leadership Livingston Class raised more than $16,000 to pay for the items, and members donated more than 200 hours to the projects.

Patricia Basco, an employee of North Oaks Health System, was selected by the class to lead the project. She attended Maurepas from K-6 grades. Other 2022 Leadership Class members were Alli Castle, HomeKey Mortgage, LLC; Brandon Browning, realtor; Karen Pitre, Jefferson Financial Federal Credit Union; Kristi Ladut, Livingston Parish Clerk of Court’s Office; Sean Root, Root Home Inspection; and Bill Smith, First Guaranty Bank.

Major project sponsors included Stines, DADS of Denham, Rotolo’s, Claymar Construction, Whitehall Grocery and Amite River Christmas on the Bayou.

“Maurepas School is known for giving back to its students and the surrounding community, so we wanted to use this opportunity to give a little something back to the school,” Basco said.

Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte, a graduate of Maurepas School, attended the unveiling of the Maurepas Project.
